We are looking for a Cook B to join our dedicated and passionate culinary team. You will work with volunteers and under the direction of the Chef in order to prepare meals ready to be distributed to homeless and displaced people living in Athens.

Location: Athens

Project Armonia

We are a non-profit organisation acting in solidarity with displaced people to promote equal access to nutrition and education. For the past two years, we have operated a free restaurant that served over 1000 healthy and nutritious meals per day to displaced people on the ‘hotspot’ island of Samos. We have worked with a diverse team of 36 different nationalities.

Now, we have a new exciting challenge ahead! We have just set up a new food project in Athens. In Autumn 2022, we started serving warm, tasty, and nutritious meals, and we are in the process of developing a food-centred educational and employability project. Through this, we aim to create a community in which we work together with displaced people towards their integration into Greek society.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Cooking and preparing meals for distribution (setting up workstation, mise en place, executing recipes).
  • Sorting, labelling, and storing delivered supplies/food ingredients according to HACCP.
  • Informing the Chef of supplies/food ingredients needed.
  • Participating with the Chef and the team of volunteers in the washing up of pots, trays, and kitchen equipment.
  • Participating with the Chef and the team of volunteers in the daily cleaning and disinfection of all areas of the kitchen including the washing up area, toilets, the kitchen reception area, the kitchen’s backyard.
  • Participating with the Chef and the team of volunteers in the monthly deep cleaning of the kitchen.
  • Responsible for the kitchen laundry (uniforms and towels).
  • Responsible for carrying out all allocated duties according to the kitchen hygiene and safety rules under Greek law, including HACCP.
  • Participating in kitchen team meetings as well as in organisational meetings, as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven professional cooking experience, minimum 2 years, as a line Chef, or a restaurant Cook, or a Cook B.
  • Valid Health Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in English (B1 Level of English).
  • Immediate availability.
  • Good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP, its implementation in daily operations, and how to keep HACCP files up to date.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, and health & safety rules in a professional kitchen.
  • Very good physical condition, including the ability to stand for long hours and to lift and carry heavy pots.
  • A team player with excellent communication abilities.

Desirable Requirements

  • IEK cook diploma with Certification of the Professional Training by EOPPEP.
  • EFET Certificate of Training in Food Hygiene and Safety.
  • Experience working or volunteering in NGOs, preferably in NGOs working with displaced people in Greece.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.

What We Offer

  • Work hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:00-17:00.
