The psychologist supports Tdh mental health and psychosocial support interventions (MHPSS) by Providing individual counselling sessions and by supporting case workers in all stages for their case management activities: identification, assessment, case planning, implementation, follow up and review, and closure of cases of concern. They provide MHPSS technical advice, and also design and implement focused and non-focused PSS activities which respond to identified needs of children, youth, caregivers and community members who require non-specialized mental health interventions.
The psychologist networks and coordinates closely with other mental health and psychosocial support actors including the EODY (National Public Health Organization) in order to map referral pathways, support and strengthen existing interventions and avoid duplication.
The job location depends on assignment and might change on mobile mode based on project’s evolving needs. According to the project needs, related MHPSS tasks might need to be undertaken in wider Athens area and with changing working schedule.
Key responsibilities:
Design and Strategy
§ Support with MHPSS needs assessments of the target population.
§ Support efforts to map and identify external mental health and PSS services for referrals.
§ Help identify service gaps and the need for training, staff care needs and other types of support for Tdh staff and external service providers.
§ Input into the design of relevant MHPSS response strategies and interventions to strengthen MHPSS service delivery.
§ Input into the design PSS interventions suitable to be delivered by non-specialised front-line staff according to identified needs and the project plan, and also design trainings respectively.
Direct Service Delivery
§ Keep case workers informed of relevant referral pathways for MHPSS cases.
§ Support interventions to train and mentor front-line staff working with children, youth and caregivers to run non-specialised, PSS activities.
§ Support the delivery of training and staff care sessions for staff of Tdh and other services providers as identified.
§ Under the guidance of the supervisor, deliver individual and group, focused and non-focused, PSS activities which address identified needs and incorporate appropriate mental health approaches and models (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic, person-centred approach, systemic approach, etc.) for vulnerable children and adults; including but not limited to parenting skills, psycho-education and mental health awareness.
§ Ensure activities are delivered in line with international human rights and Greek Law; for example, respecting the child protection systems of Greece.
§ Ensure activities are implemented in line with Tdh SOPs and documentation requirements and adhere to the fundamental principles of Interagency Standing Committee MHPSS Guidelines (e.g. Do No Harm, Multi-layered supports, confidentiality & data protection, coordination, etc.).
§ Support in the identification of cases of concern where MHPSS issues are present.
§ Support case workers with case management activities as requested (e.g. during assessment, case planning, referral, follow up, case conferences, etc.).
§ Accompany target population members to public mental health services and external actors if required.
§ Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure the timely submission of accurate reports and data respecting data protection protocols and confidentiality.
§ Ensure timely submission of weekly plans, reports to the line manager and participate in weekly supervision meetings.
Coordination and Representation
§ Identify and network with external service providers and ensure that an effective referral system is made available for youth, young adults, children and their family members in compliance with the Greek legal framework.
§ Establish and maintain positive and efficient relations with target population, community members and all the other actors. Seek for synergies to optimize resources and time and strengthen services whenever possible.
§ Participate in fora and meetings at local or regional level and liaise with humanitarian actors, authorities and other sector to disseminate information, best practices, lessons learned, etc when required.
§ Participate in external needs assessments and surveys when required.
Candidate profile:
§ University degree in Psychology
§ Ability to work under pressure and cope with challenging environments
§ Knowledge of PFA and / or delivering organisational staff care would be an advantage
§ Good knowledge of Greek legislation with regard to MHPSS care for children and local and national referral pathways
§ At least 2 years experience in similar position in the field
§ Previous experience of working with children
§ Previous experience with an NGO is desirable.
§ Proven track record and experience in emergencies would be an advantage
§ Fluent in Greek and English (oral and written).
§ Knowledge of Arabic and/or Dari/Farsi language is considered as a strong asset
§ Good IT knowledge (Microsoft Office, Internet).
§ Fulfilled Military Obligations (male candidates)
§ Valid driving license will be an asset
