Terre Des Hommes Hellas is seeking to recruit a Head of Country Office.

 

Start date            March 2023

Contract              One-year, full-time contract, renewable.

Salary                   Depending on skills and experience and based upon Tdh salary scale for this position.

Reports to         Deputy Operations Manager Asia-Europe-Latin America.

BACKGROUND

Terre des hommes Foundation, a member of the International Federation Terre des hommes, is the largest international child rights NGO in Switzerland established over 60 years ago. We operate in over 35 countries with over 100 projects of development aid and emergency impacting over 3 million beneficiaries annually. In Europe our direct assistance projects, strengthening systems and advocacy activities are primarily focused in the areas of access to justice and migration. Terre des hommes has seven offices established in Europe (Albania, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine) and is also engaged in projects with partners from other European countries and beyond. Tdh has been operating in Greece since 2015 and is locally registered since 2019 as Tdh Hellas.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Head of Country Office Greece has the overall responsibility to drive forward the country strategy and ensures it is in line with the country’s policies, practices as well as the political, social, and economic environment. S/he works independently within approved strategy and has a full responsibility of decisions in its frame according to the agreed guidelines. As a representative of the foundation, the Head of Country Office leads and tracks any activity related to any Terre des hommes’ project being carried out in the country of assignment, Greece. S/he is responsible for developing any new and existing programme and fundraising initiatives, partnerships, and ensures their sustainability. The Head of Country Office is responsible for overall financial and human resources management at country level.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Under the supervision of the Deputy Operations, he/she ensures the proper functioning of operations at the national level; as such he/she represents the Foundation in the assignment country

·         He/She directs and supervises all activities connected to the Tdh projects in his/her assignment country in line with the SP (Strategic Plan) and strategic orientations.

·         He/She represents Tdh (including legally) and promotes the entirety of its remit in the assignment country

·         He/She demonstrates ethical and exemplary leadership in order to maintain the Foundation’s good reputation and leads all the delegation’s collaborators in a shared vision in compliance with the Foundation’s strategic orientations. In collaboration with the programs and expertise, he/she develops the Strategic Plan of the Delegation’s operations in compliance with the general reference framework.

·         He/She develops and guarantees the implementation of the Delegation’s Annual Operational Plans (AOPs) in compliance with the Strategic Plan and internal processes (budgetary management, HR and logistics management, quality, and accountability)

·         He/She guarantees the implementation of an operational risk-management system for the Delegation.

·         He/She supervises and supports all staff attached to the Delegation

·         He/She ensures the Delegation’s internal and external communications

·         He/She feels accountable to the beneficiaries, collaborators, and donors

·         He/She makes sure that his/her teams and partners have learned the security policies and the general code of conduct and comply with them at all times

·         He/She is responsible for the security of the Tdh teams under his/her responsibility and is in charge of the security rules and the contingency plans of the country or countries under his/her responsibility

·         Manages and assumes ultimate responsibility for the risks and access aspects of the mission

YOUR PROFILE

Education / Qualifications:

·   University degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in a relevant field.

·   Strong expertise in the field of child rights and child protection; knowledge of migration, juvenile justice, and social inclusion programs.
Experience:

·   Minimum 5 years of management experience, preferably with an international non-governmental organization.

·   Extensive project management experience.

·   Successful track record of leading strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors such as EU, Europe Aid, SDC, DFID, ECHO, UNICEF, other UN agencies.

·   Strong team leadership qualities.

·   Ability to uphold high standards and punctuality under pressure.

·   Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

·   A commitment to excellence; attention to detail and a high interested in innovation.

 

Languages: Fluent and excellent oral and written skills in English and Greek

IT Knowledge: Fully conversant with usual IT tools.
