About Project Armonia
Project Armonia is a Non-Governmental Organization originally established on the Aegean Island of Samos in April 2019 to support displaced people with access to their basic human rights. We are registered in both Switzerland (as a Charitable Association called ‘Verein’) and Greece (as a Civil Non-Profit Group).
Since January 2022, our project has moved to Athens where we aim to address the most urgent basic needs of displaced people whilst simultaneously creating opportunities for social inclusion and active participation in the community.
Our Work in Athens
Our project in Athens aims to address the most urgent basic needs of displaced people whilst simultaneously creating opportunities for social inclusion and active participation in the community.
As the situation facing displaced people in Greece requires moving towards long-term sustainable solutions, we are committed to enhancing autonomy and promoting self-sufficiency with the final aim of building more inclusive, harmonious and resilient communities. We aim to reach these objectives through the activities described below.
The Food Project: Armonia Kitchen
We aim to support the most vulnerable of the displaced community in Athens and the surrounding outskirts by preparing tasty, healthy and nutritious meals in our professional kitchen. Our focus is on unaccompanied children, pregnant and nursing mothers, and people with no access to state support. Our meals will be provided to both displaced people and also the homeless.
To distribute our nutritious food, we will cooperate closely with other like-minded and well-established local organisations on the ground. Through this collaborative approach, we will be responding to the most crucial food needs on the ground, and reach those with the most obstacles in accessing support.
The Educational Project
Starting in 2023, we will establish a vocational training programme that centres around the development of essential skills needed to access the culinary industry. The programme will be a three to five months lab-based vocational training, and students will receive a completion certificate, a letter of recommendation, and links with potential employers in the culinary industry.
Furthermore, we aim to complement the educational programme by setting up external collaborations with NGOs that offer general, transferrable skills development, such as Greek and English classes, IT training, as well as employability services, for example, how to write a CV and prepare for interviews.
